Brief description of the "Arctic Tundra"

The word tundra is believed to come from the Finnish word "tunturia" which refers to a treeless plain. The Arctic Tundra is the youngest biome in the world. It is the world's coldest, driest biome. The biome is found almost entirely in the Northern Hemisphere. In the southern hemisphere it is found on isolated islands off the coast of Antarctica as well as on the Antarctic peninsula.Tundra lands are covered in snow for much of the year, until summer comes and brings a burst of wildflowers.
